ICDL Exams on Mac, Chromebook and Windows Devices

What this page is for

This article explains which ICDL exams can be completed on a Mac or Chromebook.

It also explains which exams require a Windows 10 or Windows 11 device with Microsoft Office installed.

Check the device requirements before starting your exam to make sure your device is suitable.


Exams that can be completed on a Mac or Chromebook

The following ICDL modules do not require Windows or Microsoft Office:

  • AI
  • Big Data
  • Remote Work
  • Data Protection
  • Cloud Computing
  • Coding Principles
  • Blockchain
  • Digital Marketing
  • E Commerce
  • Teamwork

These exams can be completed on a Mac or Chromebook.


Exams that require a Windows device

The following ICDL modules require a Windows 10 or Windows 11 device with Microsoft Office installed:

  • ICDL Essentials, including all modules
  • Databases
  • Data Analytics
  • Cyber Security

Important information

Application based exams cannot be completed on a Mac or Chromebook.

This includes exams that use applications such as Word, Excel or Databases.

These exams require a Windows environment and the appropriate Microsoft Office applications.

Before starting an exam, check that your device meets the requirements for the module you are completing.
