Exam Retake Policy
If you do not pass your certification exam on the first attempt, you may be eligible to retake the exam. Retake rules vary by certification provider and may include waiting periods between attempts, limits on the number of attempts, or requirements to purchase a new exam voucher.
For eligible eCollege-funded programmes, learners are normally funded for a first exam attempt and one retake attempt if required. In exceptional circumstances, a third exam sitting may be considered. Approval of a third sitting is not automatic and is subject to review by the Cenit Support Team and any conditions communicated to the learner.
The table below provides a summary of the retake policies for the certifications delivered through Cenit. Certification providers may update these policies from time to time; therefore, learners should always refer to the certification provider's official website for the most up-to-date information.
| Certification | Retake Policy |
|---|---|
| ICDL | There is generally no mandatory waiting period between failed exam attempts. Learners may rebook when another exam session becomes available, subject to programme rules and voucher availability. |
| CompTIA | If you fail your first attempt, there is no waiting period before taking the exam a second time. If you fail a second or subsequent attempt, a 14-day waiting period applies before retaking the same exam. A new exam voucher is required for each attempt. |
| AWS Certification | Candidates must wait 14 calendar days before retaking a failed exam. A new exam voucher is required for each attempt. |
| Cisco Certifications (CCNA, CCST, etc.) | Candidates must wait 5 calendar days before retaking a failed exam. A new exam voucher is required for each attempt. |
| PCAP / Python Institute Certifications | Retake rules depend on the exam and voucher purchased. Where a retake is included, any waiting period and conditions will be specified in the voucher terms. |
| Adobe Certified Professional | If a candidate fails their first attempt, they must wait 24 hours before retaking the exam. If they fail a second attempt, a 5-day waiting period applies before any further attempts. |
| Information Technology Specialist (ITS) | If a candidate fails their first attempt, they must wait 24 hours before retaking the exam. After a second failed attempt, a 7-day waiting period applies between all subsequent attempts. A maximum of five attempts is permitted within a 12-month period. |
| Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) | If a candidate fails their first attempt, they must wait 24 hours before retaking the exam. After a second failed attempt, a 48-hour waiting period applies before any further attempts. |
| Cisco Certified Support Technician | If a Test Candidate does not achieve a passing score on an exam the first time, the Test Candidate must wait 24 hours before retaking the exam. If a Test Candidate does not achieve a passing score the second time, the Test Candidate must wait 2 days (48 hours) before retaking the exam a third time. A two-day waiting period will be imposed for each subsequent exam retake. There is no annual limit on the number of attempts on the same exam. Retake vouchers must be used within 60 days of the initial failed exam. If a retake was purchased, the retake voucher is sent by email after a failed exam. If a Test Candidate achieves a passing score on a Cisco exam, the Test Candidate may take it again. |
