What happens if I choose not to sit the ICDL exams?

What this page is for

This article explains what happens when a learner answers No to the question “Are you sitting exams?” on the ICDL Diagnostic and exam Assessment form.

It outlines how this choice affects certificate eligibility, course access, and extensions.

If you are unsure what option to select or believe you answered incorrectly, please contact the support team as soon as possible.

Overview

As part of the enrolment process, learners are asked to complete a Diagnostic Assessment form.

This form helps confirm whether the learner intends to sit exams as part of their course.

Your response to this question directly affects certificate eligibility and how your course is managed.

Diagnostic Assessment response

If you selected No in response to the question “Are you sitting exams?”, the system records your course as non exam based.

This means the course is treated as a learning only option rather than an exam pathway.

This selection cannot be changed once your course has been activated unless an error was made. If you believe you selected the wrong option, contact Support immediately.

Certificate eligibility

Important

Learners who are not sitting exams are not eligible to receive a certificate on completion.

Certificates are only issued to learners who are registered on an exam pathway and complete the required assessments.

If you selected No to sitting exams, no certificate will be issued even if all course content is completed.

Course access and duration

You will continue to have full access to your course content for the entire duration of your enrolment.

Your enrolment period begins on the date you activate your course link.

All learning materials, videos, and resources remain available to you during this time.

Because you are not waiting for exam dates or completing diagnostic testing, you may progress through the course at your own pace.

Extensions

Extensions are normally linked to exam scheduling or assessment requirements.

As a non exam learner, you are not required to wait for exam dates.

For this reason, extensions are not available for learners who selected No to sitting exams.

Please ensure you plan your study time within your enrolment period.

What to do next

You can continue working through your course content as normal.

If your learning goals change and you believe you need certification for your course, contact Support as soon as possible to discuss available options.

If you have questions at any stage of your studies, the support team is available to help.
