What this page is for

This article explains how to download a zipped folder, find it in your Downloads folder, and unzip it so you can access the files inside.

These steps apply to learners who need to open course files, practice test files, or exam preparation materials.

If you are unable to open the files after following these steps, contact the support team for help.

What is a zipped folder

A zipped folder is a compressed file that contains one or more files inside it.

Zipped folders are often used to make downloads smaller and faster.

Important

You must unzip the folder before you can use the files inside it.

Download the file

To download the zipped folder:

  1. Click the download link provided in your course or email
  2. When asked what to do with the file, choose Save
  3. Wait for the download to finish

The file will usually download automatically to your Downloads folder.

Find the Downloads folder

Once the file has downloaded, you need to locate it.

On Windows

  • Open File Explorer
  • Click Downloads on the left side

On a Mac

  • Open Finder
  • Click Downloads on the left side

The zipped folder usually has a zip icon and the file name ends with .zip

Unzip a folder on Windows

To unzip the folder on a Windows computer:

  1. Go to your Downloads folder
  2. Right click on the zipped folder
  3. Select Extract All
  4. Click Extract

Windows will create a new normal folder with the same name.

Tip

Open the new folder to access the files. Do not work from inside the zipped folder.

Unzip a folder on a Mac

To unzip the folder on a Mac:

  1. Go to your Downloads folder
  2. Double click the zipped folder

The Mac will automatically unzip the file and create a new folder in the same location.

Open the new folder to access the files.

Check the unzipped files

After unzipping:

  • Open the new folder that was created
  • Check that you can see the files inside
  • Open the files you need for your course or practice test

If something looks wrong

If you still see a zip icon or cannot open the files, the folder may not be unzipped yet.
